Justice For Charlene Downes

 The Campaign  For Justice

In 2003, Charlene Downes vanished from the streets of Blackpool never to be seen again. She was just fourteen years old.

The investigation into her disappearance uncovered the sexual abuse of Charlene, in her own home.

Charlene also fell victim to sexual exploitation on the streets of Blackpool, where she was groomed by local men working in many fast food restaurants in the town alongside 60 other local girls.

Police ignored the victims, branding them as prostitutes or “good-time girls”, instead of recognising them as the victims of sexual exploitation that they were.

Our Story

Our story began by chance after coming across a documentary on YouTube called the Murder Of Charlene Downes. Which left many viewers with a sense of anger and outrage.

We set up a Facebook Group called The Justice For Charlene Downes Campaign Group. We have been campaigning for the last 3 years to get justice for Charlene Downes.

Our group is small and independent. The media and BBC news have covered our work in calling for an enquiry into the shocking failings of this case.

We are currently in the process of setting up and undertaking a large research project on CSA/CSE in Lancashire and the wider area .

We Are Asking The Government To Take The Following Action

  • A full investigation into the historical sexual abuse and exploitation of vulnerable young people in Blackpool.

  • A full investigation into the local authorities failure to protect Charlene and other children and keep them safe.

  • A full investigation into the police's failings during the investigation into Charlene's disappearance as the previous IPCC investigation's remit was to look at the handling of the court case and not the investigation as a whole.
